Two postdoc and two research assistant positions are available in the group of Prof. Shenghan Zhang, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). HKUST ranked #20 worldwide in Civil and Structural Engineering (QS). Situated at the seafront, HKUST is also known as one of the most beautiful campuses in the world.
We will work on combining cutting-edge structural sensing technologies (e.g., distributed fiber optic sensing, UAV-based infrastructure sensing) with simulation or data-driven models to give condition assessment and diagnostics of civil infrastructure. We provide the opportunity to collaborate with internationally leading universities. Specific research interests include:
• Computational mechanics / Numerical modeling
• Uncertainty quantification / Machine learning (collaborator: Prof. Jize Zhang)
• Large scale testing
Postdocs: You have or will soon obtain PhD in civil / mechanical engineering. At least one publication in top engineering journals is required. You have the ability to develop and realize a research idea independently. Research experience relevant to one of the aforementioned research interests is preferred, but not mandatory.
Research Assistants: You have a Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related fields. A strong background in mechanics and mathematics is required. You have documented experience in either numerical modelling or experimental testing. You are proficient in spoken and written English.
Postdoc: HKD$ 32’000 monthly with HKUST benefits and conference travel allowance.
Research Assistant: HKD$ 21’000 for applicants with Master’s degree.
The preferred starting time is August/September 2023. The initial duration is 2 years.
